It's a B+. I think the 4.3 is about right. The staff, however, is great. Had a sesame begal with a smear. I ate the bottom half and my partner had a bite of the top half. She said she could smell and taste the beer they use to make it. I bit into the tough half, and yeah, it had a stale beer taste and smell. Strange that the bottom half did not have it as much. The last couple of bites of the top half had a bitter beer flavor. If you love beer, then you might like it better. I am merely OK with beer so it was not for me. I would not go back.

After doing a lot of research on Philly bagels, I have come to the realization that this style of bagel is common throughout the area. Keeping that in mind (as a NYer), I can only compare these bagels to other Philly bagels I’ve had. That being said, the Lox#3 I had was phenomenal. Super savory, bright flavors from the radish, and the dill was a great touch. The lox tasted great and had hefty portions. The schmear was the perfect ratio of cream cheese to bagel as well. NJ/NY visiting Philly, give this place a try. It’s not our typically fat bagels with an even fatter schmear, but given the style of bagel - this place is super good!

Philly Style Bagels Old City is very clean and minimalist with zero seating inside (Covid) and all items (bagels, sandwiches, drinks) behind the counter. The bagel was reminiscent of a NYC bagel but a bit less chewy and a bit smaller but well done nevertheless. Plenty of choices in bagel types and spread flavors. Friendly, fast service. Located in a nice, new Old City building near the Betsy Ross House and other historical Philadelphia attractions.
